Antique Catacombs oil painting - crypt oil on board
An antique oil painting on board, depicting candlelit medieval catacombs. Mounted in a classical scrolling gilt gesso frame, the dark and atmospheric study shows the shadowy entrance to a crypt, with dimly lit hooded figures stood beneath arches and columns. A very proficient 19thC painting of an unusual subject, it was sourced in France and likely depicts some religious catacombs there.

Condition:
Presented in as found condition and may benefit from a professional clean. There is some wear and small knocks to the frame commensurate with age, but overall it is in very nice condition.
