Antique French ‘Les Plaisirs de la Chasse’ ironstone plate

An antique French white ironstone plate, fully decorated with black transfer depicting a hunter with his dog in the centre.

Titled ‘Les Plaisirs De La Chasse’ - (The pleasures of hunting), along with the tagline beneath - ‘il manquera plus d’un lievre a l’appel ce soir’ (More than one hare will be missing from the roll call this evening).

The central motif is surrounded on the rim by an elaborate floral border, which has three pictorial panels inside French horns, one showing a duck, one with a Hare and one with the hunter’s gun dog.

The reverse of the plate bears a black maker’s transfer for J. Viellard & co. Bordeaux, who were active between 1845 - 1895.

Condition:

Some light wear and marks, particularly around the rim, but no damage and perfect otherwise.
