French ironstone pig plate - ‘Les Travaux de la campagne’

A French 19thC white ironstone plate, fully decorated with a scene titled ‘Le fermier vend ses cochons’ - The farmer sells his pigs.

No.2 in a series titled ‘Les travaux de la campagne’ - the works of the campaign, the central pictorial shows the farmer and his pigs, looking exasperated with the wealthy buyer. The rim of the plate is fully decorated with black under glaze transfer, and has a repeating pictorial motif showing a plough, baskets and bushels of wheat.

Marked on the underside with faint mark for Gien, along with some embossed XX marks.

19.8cm diameter

Condition:

There is a light surface crack in the back of the dish, which is very faint in front side and looks more like a scratch. It does not overly detract and the plate is undamaged otherwise and in lovely original condition with light wear, marks and stain spots commensurate with age.
