A set of Maypole Dairy Company tiles
Regular price £4,800
A very rare set of Victorian advertising tiles for the Maypole Dairy Company, complete with the original tin glaze border tiles & mount.
The beautiful pictorial tiles in the middle are transfer printed & hand painted with a wonderful scene of Victorian industry - with train tracks running wagons marked M.D.C, horse drawn carts making deliveries, workers unloading milk churns and the proud owner stood in the foreground, holding his cane aloft and showing his business to two well dressed women.
A large and impressive piece, very few of which are known to remain. The tiles are set into a form of plaster cement with the original hand made steel frame.
1143mm (45") x 825mm (32-1/2")
32mm deep (1-1/4")
Some light surface wear and marks in places, most predominantly on the left pictorial tiles. Also, in the top right of the inner border, the vertical cream tile has a small crack running across its width.
