A large banded barrel shaped jug, heavily made of white ironstone pottery with an applied handle and pronounced pouring spout.
Made in the late 19thC in the Netherlands, the underside bears the black transfer sphinx mark of Petrus Regout & Co, Maastricht, the orientation of the wording in the mark dating the jug to around 1880-1885.
A large and impressive antique pitcher, it displays beautifully and is still perfectly usable after 140 years.
17.9cm Tall (7")
19cm To the top of the spout (7-1/2")
24.1cm From the front of the spout to the back of the handle (9-1/2")
15.2cm Approx belly diameter (6")
Two small scrapes/chips on the edge of the shoulder of the handle, but do not detract or affect the use of the jug. There is light glaze crazing and usage wear commensurate with age, and some reddish marks on the spout, but otherwise the jug is in very good original condition with no cracks or restoration.
