An early white ironstone scale plate, decorated with an impressive under glaze black transfer for Bartlett & Sons - Manufacturers of grocers fittings, Welsh Back Bristol.
With advertisements from as far back as 1852 stating the address for the business as '3 Welch Back, Bristol', this scale plate was from a machine manufactured circa 1880. The large transfer is quite rarely seen, with the bold name and address typography in a rope twist roundel, framing Justitia in the middle.
Some staining, light crazing and wear to the edge commensurate with age. There is a small old scrape on the back edge, and a tiny fleabite nip at the top on the front edge, but neither detract and it displays very well.
