A Victorian embossed butchers showcard. With no fading and superb colours, the brilliantly executed pictorial is filled with lovely little details - the hooks behind the butcher displaying a variety of cuts and hams hung alongside his scales, the shelf below adorned with white ware slabs and platters piled with sausages and joints (even a tongue dish being used for its original purpose!), the lovely texture of the wood grain in his butchers block and the marbling in the rack he is carving... all fantastic... best of all in my mind are the highly decorative cuffs he is wearing!
A rare and significant piece of 19thC butchers shop display, with a small amount of creasing in the top left corner, but no other damage at all. The superb colours really leap off the card, which has been reverse embossed to give the piece texture and detail. It would make a fantastic addition to any collection, hung in a kitchen or back where it belongs in a classic butchers shop, we've never seen another, and don't expect to again!
