A leather elephant footstool by Dimitri Omersa for Liberty's of London. A particularly early example, the elephant was Dimitris first new piece after taking over from 'Old Bill' at Liberty's, a leather luggage maker who made the first leather pig footstools for Liberty's from 1927.
After the Elephant, Dimitri designed leather Donkey and Rhinoceros footstools for the premium London store, the latter of which was such a best seller that it subsequently formed the logo for the Omersa brand.
14" Tall to top of head
Original unrestored condition with decorative wear and patination to the leather. Some of stitching has pulled, particularly around the top of the trunk where it joins the face. The Elephants right tusk stitching has also partially come away and could use some attention, but could be glued or stitched.
