A battle damaged WW1 German M16 Stahlhelm (steel helmet), from the Western front.
After the great war, many Stahlhelm's were destroyed and decommissioned with a pick axe to the top, or made into cookware and pots by the thousand.
The damage to the front of this helmet is consistent with sudden impact shattering from a bullet or shrapnel, and along with its rusting, indicates it lay buried where the soldier fell for nearly a century.
As found condition, no lining. Stitched Milliners head not included but hat stands and heads are available for sale.
