A fantastic vintage French bistro table advertising Banania cocoa powder mix, with a circular tin sign atop a heavy cast iron tripod base.
The top of the table shows the iconic branding of the famous company, the Sengalese Infantryman with a spoon to his mouth and the slogan "Y'a bon.. Banania, Petit Déjeuner Familial", (It's good... Banania, family breakfast) - derived from the pidgin French used by the colonised West African soldiers in the early 20thC, who during the first world war were issued with the long life, space saving tins of Banania cocoa powder.
Gradually, the image of the smiling Sengalese Infantryman and the phrase have become inseparable in France and the expression l'ami y'a bon was coined - "the y'a bon buddy".
73.6cm Tall (29")
59.6cm Diameter (23-1/2")
A bright and quirky piece of vintage French advertising furniture in very good condition. There are some light scratches/marks and usage wear commensurate with age, with minimal & sympathetic restorative touch out to a couple of the worst affected spots.
